Wix site has no click-to-call button on phones: how to add one

For small local businesses · November 5, 2026

When someone finds your business on a phone, the fastest thing they can do is tap your number and talk to you. If your Wix site only shows your phone number as plain text, that tap does nothing. This guide walks through adding a real click-to-call link or button in the Wix editor, setting it up in mobile view, and checking that it works. This guide is not made by, partnered with or endorsed by Wix.

Check what your site does now

Open your own site on a phone, not on your computer. Find every place your phone number appears: the header, the contact section, the footer, and any landing page you send ads to.

Tap each number. If the phone dialer opens with your number filled in, that spot is already a click-to-call link. If nothing happens, or the number is part of an image, it is plain text and needs fixing.

Turn a phone number into a tappable link

In the Wix editor, click the text element that holds your phone number and choose edit text. Highlight just the number, then use the link option in the text toolbar.

Pick the phone option and type your number in full, including the area code. Save, then publish. The text now opens the dialer when tapped on a phone, and on a desktop it will usually open a calling app or simply do nothing harmful.

Add a proper call button

A link inside a paragraph is easy to miss. A button is easier to spot and easier to hit with a thumb. In the editor, use add elements, then button, and place it near the top of the page where it is visible without scrolling.

Label it plainly so there is no guessing. Something like call us or call now with your number spelled out works. Then open the button settings, choose link, select the phone option, and enter the same number you used elsewhere.

Set it up in mobile view

Switch to the mobile editor using the phone icon at the top of the Wix editor. Mobile layout is separate, so a button you added on desktop may sit in an odd spot or be hidden on small screens.

Drag the button where you want it, and confirm it is not hidden. Wix also offers a mobile action bar and a floating call option in the mobile tools menu; either one keeps a call button on screen while visitors scroll. Pick one, not several, so the screen stays calm.

Check that your button does not cover your text when the page loads. Elements that jump around hurt Cumulative Layout Shift, which Google considers good at 0.1 or below.

Test it on a real phone

Publish the site, then open it on your own phone using the public address, not a preview. Tap the button and confirm the dialer opens with the correct number. Do this on an Android phone and an iPhone if you can borrow one.

Have someone actually place the call so you know it reaches the line you want, including after hours or when it forwards. Then check the page speed at pagespeed.web.dev. A page where Largest Contentful Paint stays at 2.5 seconds or less, and Interaction to Next Paint stays at 200 milliseconds or less, feels quick when someone taps.
