If you search for your business and your website does not come up, there is usually a simple reason behind it. This guide walks through the common causes, in the order worth checking, and shows where to look inside your Wix dashboard. This guide is not made by, partnered with or endorsed by Wix.
An unpublished site, or a site where your newest pages were never republished, will not appear in search at all. Editing a page saves a draft; publishing is a separate step.
Open your site in the Wix editor and look at the top right for the publish button. Publish, then view the live site in a private browser window so you are not seeing a cached editor version.
Wix has a setting that tells search engines not to index a page or the whole site. It is easy to switch on while a site is being built and easy to forget afterwards.
In your dashboard, go to the marketing and SEO area, then SEO settings, and review the indexing options for the site. Then open each important page in the editor, go to the page's SEO settings, and make sure the option that lets search engines show the page is turned on.
Search Console is the free tool that tells you whether Google can see your site and what it found. Wix has a guided connection in the SEO section of the dashboard, which verifies ownership for you.
Once connected, use the URL inspection tool to check your homepage. It will tell you if the page is indexed, blocked, or simply not discovered yet. If it is not indexed, you can request indexing for that page.
If your site went live recently, patience is part of the fix. Google has to discover the site, crawl it, and decide to index it, and that does not happen the moment you publish.
While you wait, give Google more ways to find you. Claim and complete your Google Business Profile at business.google.com, add your website address there, and make sure your business is listed the same way on any local directories or association pages you already belong to.
Sometimes the site is indexed but you cannot find it because you are searching for broad words that many businesses compete for. Try searching your exact business name in quotation marks first. If that brings up your site, indexing is fine and the issue is visibility for service words.
Thin or duplicated pages can also be skipped. Give each page a unique title, a clear heading, and real text about the service and the area you cover.
Pages that load slowly or shift around as they load are harder for people to use. Paste your address into pagespeed.web.dev and look at the field data. Largest Contentful Paint is considered good at 2.5 seconds or less and poor over 4 seconds, Cumulative Layout Shift should be 0.1 or below, and Interaction to Next Paint should be 200 milliseconds or less.
Large uncompressed images and heavy add-on apps are the usual causes on a small business site.
