State of LA Dental Websites: October 2026 🦷
We opened 430 dental office websites in 74 Los Angeles County cities and neighborhoods on a phone, the way a new patient would. Here is what we saw, with every number counted. We do not name any practice.
The short version
- 87% were slow on a phone (Google PageSpeed: main content over 4 seconds, or a score under 50). (304 of 348)
- Only 6 of 234 dental websites (3%) showed their main content within Google's 2.5 second "good" mark in our Google PageSpeed tests on October 17 and 18.
- 40% did not show their phone number as text on the first phone screen. (154 of 382)
- 28% had no tap-to-call button on the first phone screen. (27 of 96, checked October 30)
- 4% had no working tap-to-call link anywhere on the phone homepage, counted only when a second check agreed, so the real share may be higher. (11 of 286)
- Good news: 83% had a "Book" or "Appointment" button on the first phone screen. (80 of 96, checked October 30)
Speed by area ⏱️
Google PageSpeed Insights, mobile lab test, one run per website. "Middle time" is the median: half the websites were faster, half slower.

How we checked 🔍
- 📱 Our checker opened each homepage in Google Chrome at phone size (390 pixels wide), the way a new patient on an iPhone would.
- 👀 "First phone screen" means the top 844 pixels, what you see before you scroll.
- 📞 A call button counts when that first screen has a link that starts a phone call with a real 10-digit US number. A number written as plain text is not a button.
- 🐢 Slow means Google PageSpeed Insights (mobile test) said the main content took more than 4 seconds, or gave a score under 50 out of 100. It is a lab test on a simulated mid-range phone, so visitors on fast phones may see a quicker page.
- 📅 Checked October 17 to October 30, 2026. Each website counted once (newest check kept). Los Angeles County only.
- ⚠️ Limits: these are websites we chose to check while looking for practices to help (found on maps and web searches), not a random sample of every dentist in LA. Websites change every day. Treat the numbers as a snapshot.
- 🚫 What we did not check: other pages, booking tools, Google listings, reviews, prices or the quality of care.
Free steps to fix it yourself 🛠️
- Open your website on your phone. Can you see your phone number without scrolling?
- Tap the number. If no call starts, make it a call link (link it to tel: plus your number, like
tel:3105551234). - Put a big "Call us" button at the top, next to "Book".
- Test your speed for free at pagespeed.web.dev. Big photos are the most common reason for a slow page: make them smaller before you upload them.
